The blockbuster track Naatu Naatu from the  hit Telugu-language film RRR  won Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. The tempo and choreography of the song captivated the audiences not only in India but around the world. It was the first time that any Indian movie song was judged the best in this category leaving behind  many heavyweights such as Rihana and Lady Gaga.  India also won a second Oscar in this year. The film, The Elephant Whisperers, which is a documentary short film, won an Oscar in the Best Documentary Short film category.

In a car blast occured in the outskirts of Moscow on 21 August, the daughter, Darya Dugina, of the close ally considered as the right hand of Russia's President Vladimir Putin died in a car explosion. Darya Dugina was 29 and was the daughter of the Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin known in political circle as "Putin's brain".  Alexander Dugin considered as an ultra-nationalist ideologue and his dughter Darya Dugina had been at a festival near Moscow, where the philosopher gave a lecture on Saturday evening. The festival called "Tradition" describes itself as a family event for art lovers which takes place at the Zakharovo estate, where Russian poet Alexander Pushkin once stayed. External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar, during a lecture in Bangkok said that an Asian Century cannot cease to exist if India and China do not join hands. Responding to it the  Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said,   "China and India are two ancient civilisations, two major emerging economies and two neighbouring countries. We have far more common interests than differences. Both sides have the wisdom and capability to help each other succeed instead of undercutting each other." The much awaited 5G services are now going to be a reality as the Information Technology minister annouces 5G rollout and asks all service providers to get prepared for its launch and also make infrastuctural modifications  accordingly.                                          The Information Technology minister Ashwini Vaishnav PM Modi already mentioned in his I-Day speech about the rollout 5G services inthe country.  PM also said that the 5G speeds will be 10X faster than 4G speeds in the country. Ahead of the official release, telecom operators are actively looking to hire engineers for developing 5G-related products. All network providers such as Airtel, Jio, Vi are expected to roll out the first phase of their 5G services later this month, with the official release due later this year. The supreme court of India agreed with the  findings of the Special Investigation Team appointed by it  and rejected the plea of Zakira Jafri and stated that there was no larger conspiracy behind the 2002 Gujarat riots. The appeal of Zakira Jafri was dismissed on Friday by  the apex court. The appeal had  challenged the SIT’s  clean chit to the then Chief Minister of Gujrat and others in cases related to the riots.  A bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and C T Ravikumar said that the SIT did not find any conspiracy  linking separate and disparate acts of arson and looting or outrageous claims made in sting operations or individual utterances or publications of purported hate speech, to any singular larger conspiracy or planned event.
